Q. Do you provide bedding?
A. Camping in our tents is a bit of a cheat on traditional camping. You have a lot of modern comforts that your would not get in your own tent. You are as old as you feel!
Q. What amount of cycling I can cope with?
A. Novice cyclists should be able to cycle up to twenty miles a day quite comfortably, thrity miles starts to get a bit tiring but is readily achievable by most semi fit people. More frequent cyclists won't have a problem with far longer distances. Children can usually cycle quite happily up to twenty miles, and with breaks longer distances are not a great problem either. Our routes enable you to choose shorter options should you need to and we also offer single site holidays if your do not wish to cycle too far. The tour is a challenge and an enjoyable achievement although expect to ache as the week progresses.
Q. I have young children, how do you cater for them?
A. We have a number of bike solutions, from trailers to tag-a-longs so that children from babies to independent young cyclists can be catered for safely. Nearly all children enjoy the camping part!
Q. Are the cycle routes dangerous?
A. Our tours combine a mixture of quiet country lanes and off road tracks. You should expect to find a few vehicles on these roads since they are sometimes the only means of connecting small country hamlets and villages.
Q. Is this holiday suitable for children?
A. Most definitely. Children learn road skills, countryside awareness and have a great time cycling, camping and exploring. Routes can be challenging or easy, depending on your mood.
Q. What are the campsites like?
A. All have showers and toilet facilities but some are bigger than others. Generally all campsites will have their own character but we are confident each will you offer something slightly different that you will enjoy - be it location, facilities, atmosphere or something else. For more information please call us.
A. Most people travel by car, but please only bring one car. Part of the enjoyment of cycling in the countryside is the lack of cars, so areas where tourists bring lots of cars spoil the cycling / walking and other countryside pursuits. You can park one car on your starting campsite but you my well be charged for additional cars, if they can accommodate them at all. You can also travel by train / bus / taxi. Please call us should this be a problem and we will happily help find a solution.
Q. I want to bring my own bike, is that a good idea?
A. Generally if you are an experienced cyclist then you probably know what you are doing and can make that decision for yourself. You will have a mixture of cycling opportunities, some of which are off road and best suited to mountain bikes, but on road cycling with a mountain bike is hard work because of their weight and tyres. We use a hybrid bike that combines the positives of mountain bikes and road bikes.
Q. Should my children bring their bikes?
A. As well as issues raised in the above question, younger children may have difficulty sustaining a full day of cycling. For this reason we usually recommend that young children use a tag-a-long which enables them to pedal when they want to but be towed when they feel tired. They may prefer to bring their own bike and use one of our tag alongs, your children can then cycle on some days but not others. Please call us to discuss what's best for you.
A. You'll get wet! On the positive side, our tents are spacious and dry and you can hang clothes out to dry inside the tent. Most sites have laundrettes on site. Good clothing is the key, just as it would be if your went skiing.
A. During the summer this is very unlikely. Extra blankets are available should you need them. Just ask.
Q. What will happen in an emergency?
A. Whatever the situation we will always try to help you. Just call us and we will try to sort your problem out.
A. Bedding is not inclusive in the price, although we do provide you with a pillow. We recommend you bring your own sleeping bag. We do sell sleeping bags for guests who don't have their own sleeping bag. We donate used sleeping bags to charity should you wish not to take them home with you. Please see our prices page for more information.
